UCEF, Friends of the Arts, is partnering with the City of Chico to bring ARTOBERFEST to the region. A month-long celebration, ARTOBERFEST highlights visual arts, dance, music, literature, film & video, & theatre. It was launched in 2005 with a $10,000 city grant and leveraged into nearly $70,000. This year, the City is investing $50,000; ARTOBERFEST is expanding and we're kicking it off with CHICO PALIO. Modeled after Italy's famous Siena Palio, it's designed to bring residents together to create magnificent neighborhood flags (using artists-in-residence), and design a horse on wheels. In addition to the race winner, competitions feature the Best Designed Horse, Best Designed Flag, as well as a Horse-Art-in-the-Schools program. |
