Guest lecture: Wednesday, October 6, 5:00 PM, PAC 134 on the CSU, Chico campus

The Art and Life of Wayne Thiebaud, by Phil linhares, Chief curator, Oakland Museum of California. 

In conjunction with Wayne Thiebaud: Works on paper, Phil Linhares will discuss Wayne Thiebaud's career from his early days to the present and will chronicle his art and life, illustrated by examples of Thiebaud's signature still lifes, portriats, landscapes, and drawings from the late 1950s to the present. This lecture is free and open to the public. The Philip E. Linhares lecture was funded in part by the Associated Students Committee on Arts & Lectures and the Printmaking area of the Department of Art & Art History, CSU, Chico. 

 

About Philip Linhares:

Philip E. Linhares, Chief Curator, Oakland Museum of California has 41 years of experience in the museum field, including work as Director of Exhibitions for the San Francisco Art Institute and Director of Mills College Art Gallery. He holds BFA and MFA degrees from the California College of Arts and Crafts. A California native, Linhares' curatorial work has reflected a deep interest in understanding of California art, culture, and society. His numerous curated exhibitions have included Selections from our Historic landscape Collection, at the Sonoma County Museum: and at the Oakland Museum. Being There: 45 Oakland Artists'; L.A. Paint, Southern California Painting; and Hot Rod Garages. The latter exhibition was a recognition of hot rod culture as an American Folk Art.
