Presented by "You Know You're From Chico When..." Facebook group
About a year and a half ago, I started a Facebook group called “You Know You’re From Chico When…”. It’s a page for people to reminisce about old Chico, and compare with new Chico. All are invited, from Chico natives to Chico transplants. Whether you started here or left for new adventures, as long as you have Chico in your heart, you are part of this group. A little over a month ago, an amazing thing happened. I had over 1,000 people join the group in one day, and since have added over 2,000 more. The numbers are still increasing every day! The comments contain memories of younger years, of old Chico history back to the Bidwells, of Chico sights and architecture. The comment threads link people from across the country to old neighborhoods and to old neighbors.
The interest in this phenomenon has led to an event to be held in Chico’s City Plaza, Saturday, October 22, 2011, from 12 Noon to 5 pm. There will be food, beverages, arts & crafts and more. Photos to see, stories to hear and great music from local bands and a raffle drawing for prizes!
