MARK YOUR CALENDAR for Avenue 9 Gallery’s fall and winter ‘paint out’ and group exhibition opportunities.

Avenue 9 Gallery invites artists to participate in a ‘Chico Icons’ Paint Out for October 13-22.  Featured will be urban views, private gardens and agricultural settings in Chico and nearby areas. ($30 fee includes participation in a ‘Chico Icons’ group exhibition (November 17-January 14). 

SPECIAL PAINT OUT FEATURE:  On two “Paint Out” days, Friday October 13 and Sunday October 22 we invite artists to set up at a location of choice at the redesigned City Plaza (between Main and Broadway at 5th Street).  Has there ever been such a controversial redesign of a public place within Chico?  Plein Air accuracy is one way to go, and you’d have so many viewpoints from which to select, including backdrops of the Post Office and other buildings. As an alternative, we invite you to take liberties, let your imagination soar, express your personal feelings. You might collage in sections of old City Plaza, or redesign the new plaza to better suit your wishes.  We will devote a section of our “Chico Icons” exhibit to City Plaza paintings.  We believe good publicity and exhibition attendance can result.   We will set up a people’s choice’ ballot box for the audience to vote on a favorite “City Plaza” painting (or photograph).  As the prize, we will create a page on our website that will feature the winning artist. Images, an interview and a bio will be included.

Nov. 1, Avenue 9 Gallery Application Deadline: “Chico Icons” exhibition (Nov. 17-Jan.14). A $20 application fee is to be accompanied by three images of rural of urban scenes from and near Chico (files attached to e-mails or prints delivered to the gallery).   No application fee for “Chico Icons” Paint-Out participants.

December 15, Avenue 9 Gallery Application Deadline: “From the Heart: Small Art” Submit up to 3 images by e-mail or prints delivered to the gallery for consideration in a Feb. 9-March 11, 2007 “From the Heart: Small Art” exhibition (largest dimension = 12 inches).  $20 application fee.
