Presented by The Writing Loft
Pitching your novel, or nonfiction book proposal to a literary agent can be the most exciting — and nerve-wracking — time in any author’s life. That’s why The Writing Loft designed “Skip the Pitch”. “We’ve seen so many authors with well-written and well-styled manuscripts get overlooked at conference pitch sessions simply because they were too nervous or lacked the sales ability needed to sell their books,” says Nora Profit, director of The Writing Loft. It’s time that pitch sessions were less like a reality show contest and more of an opportunity for authors to shine.
The Writing Loft has invited five industry professionals to meet with authors in small group settings to hear about their books and give advice. Each writer will still have the chance to pitch his or her book, but in an environment that alleviates unnecessary nerves. The agents and publishers will take the time to talk to writers about what they’re looking for and will give pitch tips before and after the sessions.
“In this way, authors get a chance to share their books and project proposals, and get valuable feedback at the same time,” says Profit. “It’s a win-win for all.”
Bring your ideas, your books/manuscripts, and your creative selves to the Butte County Library on Saturday, October 22 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. You can’t afford to doubt yourself.
