EVENTS

THE LAST CRUX EVENT AT 1421 Park Ave!!

Wednesday, October 29th | 8PM - The End

"Video Love"

Final Event @ The Crux ---On October 29th, director/video artist/electronic media guru James June Schneider and actress/singer/electronic music and video artist Elmapi are touring the West Coast, bringing both their live performance titled "Video Love", in which Schneider showcases his skills as a vampler (video sampler - he's basically a DJ using film clips instead of records) and Elmapi sings and adds her own musical layers to the experience, and also screening their recently released film, "1,2,3, Whiteout - The End of the Light Age".

"1,2,3 Whiteout" was featured at the 2007 Artfilm International Film Festival in Slovakia, the 2007 Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Films in Belgium, the 2007 Sonic Circuits Festival of Experimental Music at the Goethe Institute in Washington, D.C., the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival in the Netherlands, the 2007 Leeds International Film Festival in the U.K., the 2007 Entreveus Film Festival in France, the 2008 New York Underground Film Festival, the 2008 Riofan Festival in Brasil, and the 2008 Imaginaria Festival in Italy.

The film was released in collaboration with experimental music label Zeromoon, and features acting by Lou Castel and Karine Androver.  It's described as follows:  This tone poem for darkness mixes strange settings from various cities and languages, found footage, a raw sci-fi sensibility and incredible soundscapes to create a blissfully imaginative retro-futuristic creation.  Set in an old-fashioned kind of future, Veronique and an inventor are working to bring about a 'positive' darkness to offset the glaringly bright man-made light.  As much about sound as darkness, it asks: Can we shine when we are faced with blinding light?

Schneider will also be screening a few short instructional films on artificial light, light bulbs, and "manifestations of the cult of light".

This will be a unique event for Chico, and a brilliant way to close the doors to the Crux as we evolve and transition to a new home under the eaves of Tion.  All ages, $5-$10 at the door.
