Whimsical, technicolored, and usually somewhat autobiographical, Schwerin’s painting reflects her life moods. Acrylics are her medium on canvas, wood and
paper. She starts with a heavy texture of gesso and then sponges to create ethereal
backgrounds. The shininess found on the majority of her paintings is an oil varnish
that pops the colors and gives them a sepia finish. She is inspired by Dr. Seuss and has a deep love of trees, and of the landscape that surrounds her. With her recent relocation to Durham, she claims more barns will appear in her work. |
