Fifty Years? Who’s Counting? Opening Print
Saturday, October 04 2008, 7:00pm - 9:00pm

At the Vagabond Rose Gallery

RICHARD HORNADAY has reached the half century mark as a Chico resident,
securing a place of reverence among collectors for his diverse paintings, drawings and original prints. His early professional career was spent in Redding, devoted to developing arts education programming and teaching at Shasta College. It was during his period that his regional and national exposure as an artist began in earnest. When a permanent position failed to open for Hornaday at Shasta College, he opted for an offer at then “Chico State College” as professor of graduate studies in the fall of 1968. He was promoted to chairman of the art department in 1972, retiring from California State University, Chico, in 1988. His work has been exhibited widely throughout California, in New York City (The Figure The Museum of Modern Art), in a traveling exhibit of 10 museums nationwide and in national Watercolor exhibits in 1994, 1997 and 1998. His work has been the subject of numerous articles and his place of importance among California painters will be secure well into the future. Did we forget to mention his selection in Who’s Who in American Art? Well that goes without saying. This showing will offer an opportunity to look back over half a century of paintings, prints and drawings, many of which will be offered for your consideration a a minimum 15% savings as a way of saying THANK YOU to his buying public. Richard will be joined at this special showing by his wife Jenifer Shevis Hornaday, and Ann Pierce, Frances Miller, Charlotte Sweetland, Candy Matthews, Mabrie Ormes, Carryl Brown and Bob Garner, all respected painters, offering similar savings in a spirit of celebration. Note: Departing from past practices, works will be removed at time of purchase and other works will be added.
