Cris Guenter

Cris GuenterCris Guenter is both artist and educator. She is a professor in the Department of Education at California State University Chico and was named the 2008 National Art Educator of the Year by the National Art Education Association.

Her artwork has been in regional, national and international exhibitions since 1972 including Atlanta, Chicago, New Orleans, San Jose, Miami and Dublin, Ireland. She was involved in numerous individual and group shows in Chico since 1987. She served as the first chair of the Arts Commission for Chico from 1990-1996. Cris was named CSU Chico's Outsanding Teacher for 2000 and California's Outstanding Visual Art Educator for 2001-2002. She was one of eight area artists selected to participate in the National Plein Air Painting Competition of Bidwell Park here in Chico in July 2005. Her work is anchored by the influence of line, color, and shape found in nature. Her recent series of local Chico scenes have been a favorite of the public.
